Privacy Policy
Nova Numbers is used by children, so we limit the information handled by the app and its providers. It has no accounts, no ads and no server of its own. This page is written for the grown-up who is deciding whether to install it.
1. Who we are
Nova Numbers is made by Oussama Elhaidi (“we” and “us” in this policy). For anything on this page, write to hello.elhaidi@gmail.com.
2. What we never ask for or collect
Nova Numbers does not collect, and has no way to receive:
- a child’s name, nickname, birthday, email address, phone number or postal address;
- photos, video, microphone audio, contacts or location;
- an advertising identifier (IDFA), or any identifier used to follow a child across other companies’ apps or websites;
- anything a child draws, writes or types as an answer;
- payment card details, billing addresses or Apple Account details.
There are no ads in Nova Numbers: no banners, no interstitials, no rewarded video, and no advertising SDK. Nothing about a child is used for advertising, profiling or building an audience, and nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.
3. Handwriting
When a child writes an answer with a finger, the strokes are turned into an image and read entirely on the device, using Apple’s on-device text recognition. No part of it is uploaded.
The drawing is discarded as soon as the question moves on. It is never saved to a file, never included in any data sent from the app, never attached to a support message, and never used to train anything.
Handwriting reading is experimental and sometimes misreads an answer. When that happens, the app shows what it read and offers a typed answer instead, so a child is never stuck or penalised.
Number Writing works the same way. When a child traces a digit, the strokes are compared with the guide on the device to score the attempt, and are discarded when the child moves on. Only whether the digit was traced is kept.
4. What the app stores on the iPhone
All of this is saved in the app’s own storage on the device. It is not uploaded anywhere.
| What | Why it exists |
|---|---|
| Onboarding profile | Quiz selections used locally to personalize onboarding; they are not sent to analytics. |
| Installation and onboarding assignment | A random installation ID and a saved onboarding variant keep the experience consistent across launches. |
| Age range | A broad band a grown-up picks (not a date of birth), so questions and the starting world fit the child. |
| Skills Check result | Which world the child was placed in, so practice starts at the right level. |
| Lesson progress and stars | Which lessons are done, how many stars each earned, and a lesson in progress (the questions and whether each was right, retried or skipped, never the answers written). |
| Streak and daily goal | So the app can show a streak and celebrate a completed day. |
| Repair Bay questions | Questions the child did not answer correctly first time, with the lesson they came from and the date each is next due, so they can be brought back until they stick. These are questions the app generated, not anything the child wrote. An entry stops coming back once it has been answered correctly three times running. At most 60 are kept; beyond that the app drops the finished ones first, then the oldest. |
| Practice history | Per-day counts (sessions, questions, how many were right first time, stars and seconds practised) and per-operation totals, which the grown-ups' progress report is drawn from. Days older than 30 are dropped. No question, answer or drawing is part of it. |
| Sound, haptics and reminder settings | The preferences chosen in the Grown-ups area. |
| Subscription status | A copy of whether Nova Premium is active, for display only. Access is always confirmed with the App Store through RevenueCat. |
You can erase all learning progress at any time from the Grown-ups area (Reset learning progress). Deleting the app removes everything it stored.
5. Subscriptions and RevenueCat
In version 1.0.1 and later, the Skills Check, all four worlds, Number Writing, the Repair Bay and the progress report require an active Nova Premium auto-renewing subscription, sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment. We never see card details, a billing address or who owns the Apple Account.
To confirm whether a subscription is active, and to make Restore Purchases work, the app uses RevenueCat, Inc., a subscription management service based in the United States. When the app starts, and when a grown-up buys or restores a subscription, RevenueCat receives:
- a random anonymous ID created by the app (it is not linked to a name, email or Apple Account, and is not used to track anyone across apps or websites);
- App Store purchase records for Nova Numbers (which plan, purchase and renewal dates, and whether the subscription is active);
- basic technical information needed to answer the request, such as the app version, iOS version, App Store country and the device’s IP address.
RevenueCat processes this on our behalf only to provide subscription status. We do not use it for advertising, analytics about a child, or tracking. RevenueCat’s own privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.
If you delete and reinstall the app, it creates a new anonymous ID. Restore Purchases reconnects your subscription using your App Store purchases.
6. Analytics
Versions configured for usage analytics use PostHog to measure onboarding, subscription conversion and learning activation. Unconfigured versions send no usage analytics. Analytics events use a random installation ID and include event names, app version, onboarding variant, broad age bands and coarse activity counts, duration or accuracy buckets. Quiz answers, exact ages, names, handwritten strokes and typed answers are never included. The installation ID and onboarding assignment are stored locally; resetting learning progress preserves them, while deleting app data removes them.
PostHog processes analytics on our behalf. We do not enable session replay, automatic screen or tap recording, advertising attribution, or personal profiles. See PostHog’s privacy policy. The subscription provider and analytics provider are separate services. If you have a data request, contact us using the address below; please do not send a child’s answers or drawings.
7. Parent gate
Buying a subscription, managing a subscription, the Grown-ups area, and links that leave the app (including this policy and the Terms of Use when opened from the subscription screen) are protected by a parent gate: a challenge that asks for a number written out in words, which a young child is not expected to pass. It is a barrier against accidental taps, not a security control.
8. Reminders
An optional daily practice reminder can be switched on in the Grown-ups area. It is scheduled locally by iOS, at a time a grown-up picks, and can be turned off at any time. Nothing about it is sent anywhere.
9. Children’s privacy
Nova Numbers is an educational practice app intended to be set up and supervised by a parent, guardian or teacher. We do not ask children for names, contact details or exact birth dates. Subscription information is described in section 5 and configured usage analytics in section 6. Neither is used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
To remove learning information stored on the device, use Reset learning progress or delete the app. If you believe a child has sent us personal information another way, for example by writing to our support address, tell us and we will delete it.
10. If you contact us
Messages sent from the support page are delivered by FormSubmit, a form-forwarding service, to our support inbox, which is a Gmail account. Emails you send us directly also arrive in that inbox. These providers process the message on our behalf in order to deliver it.
Please write to us as the grown-up, not as the child, and do not include a child’s name, school or photo. We use what you send only to answer you, and delete support conversations when they are no longer needed.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information about you, or to object to how it is used. Requests may concern support emails or information processed by our providers. Write to hello.elhaidi@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. You can also contact your local data protection authority.
12. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what the app does with data, we will update the date at the top of this page and the matching summary inside the app before the new behaviour ships.
13. Contact
Questions, requests or corrections: hello.elhaidi@gmail.com. We aim to reply within two working days.
